Mission of Love 2020

Parents, teachers, students: We have a special challenge for you! If you’re connected to a classroom, we invite your students to get creative and design a message of love that can be sent electronically to the children in San Lucas. Create a digital art project, film students doing random acts of kindness, or scan hand-drawn friendship cards.
A Very Special Week in San Lucas

San Lucas was once a small village of cornstalk homes with thatched roofs, lacking both electricity and plumbing. There were neither health care facilities nor schools and women and children suffered severely from the lack of healthcare, with many women dying in childbirth and children suffering from malnutrition. But 1963 proved a historic year for the people of San Lucas.

We received about 200 entries from visitors all around the country. Friends of San Lucas staff completed two rounds of voting to determine the winners. Thank you to all of the talented participants who took the time to share their beautiful shots with us.

The Power of Education in San Lucas

Felipe Bajan is the Assistant Principal at Colegio Monseñor Gregorio Schaffer. Felipe studied at the school as a child, and later, he taught fifth and sixth grade at the school for 20 years before becoming Assistant Principal.
Vinicio’s Story

Vinicio Gerardo Perez Chumil is a physical education teacher at Colegio Monseñor Gregorio Schaffer. Vinicio studied at the school as a child, and today, he embodies the passionate and effective teaching the school is known for.
Meet Candelaria!

Candelaria Perez Chumil is a third-grade teacher at Colegio Monseñor Gregorio Schaffer. On this Give to the Max Day, Candelaria is telling us her story so that we can raise $6,000 for the school – the salary for one teacher in San Lucas.
Students Lobby for San Lucas in Washington

Every year, more than 1,000 visitors travel to the San Lucas Mission in San Lucas Tolimán, Guatemala. They come to learn about the history and culture of the Maya people and to work alongside them by participating in the programs of the Mission. Many leave wondering what they can do to help.
Announcing the First Ever Friends of San Lucas Visitor Photo Contest!

The Friends of San Lucas Photo Contest begins October 28, 2019, and ends November 20, 2019, at 11:59 PM Central Standard Time. By submitting an entry via email, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest and states that they are 18 years old or older.
A Successful San Lucas Gala!

On September 28th, more than 350 people gathered together for the annual Celebrate San Lucas Gala in Mankato, Minnesota. We enjoyed live music, dinner, auctions, and inspirational speakers. In total we raised $140,000 to serve the people of San Lucas Tolimán.
